BGP Peering with HSRP virtual IP address
BGP Peering with HSRP virtual IP address:
It is not possible to form the BGP peering with HSRP virtual IP address. But by using tricky method we can do it.
Let us take the scenario:
R1:
Here the R1 has highest HSRP priority of 200 . So the BGP forms the peering with R1's loopback IP address.
It is not possible to form the BGP peering with HSRP virtual IP address. But by using tricky method we can do it.
Let us take the scenario:
Here we are having three routers R1, R2, R3. R3 having bgp peering with R1 & R2. As we everyone know the BGP peering will not happen with HSRP VIP. The only way to form the peering with an analystic loopback in both R1 & R2 routers.
.The configurations are given below
Here the R1 has highest HSRP priority of 200 . So the BGP forms the peering with R1's loopback IP address.
R2:
R3:
Now we are going to shut the R1's Gig Ethernet link to see the changes. you can see that the gig link is down, HSRP state changed to standby router and BGP went down.
In R2 you can see that the HSRP state changed to active and BGP peering formed.
In R3 there is no configuration changes. But you can see that BGP went down and came up due to HSRP state change in R1 & R2 routers.
Thank you!!
